EMT Admissions and Eligibility Policy
Idaho CPR Plus
Purpose
Idaho CPR Plus is committed to providing a safe, professional, and supportive learning environment for all Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) students.
Admission to the EMT program is based on an individualized review of each applicant's eligibility, preparedness, professional conduct, and ability to meet essential program requirements.
Submission of an application does not guarantee acceptance.
General Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
-
Be at least 17 years old on or before the first day of class.
-
Complete the EMT pre-registration application accurately and in its entirety.
-
Have reliable transportation to required classroom sessions and clinical rotations.
-
Be able to participate in essential EMT training activities, with or without reasonable accommodations.
-
Meet applicable clinical placement and certification requirements.
-
Demonstrate a willingness to meet the academic, attendance, and professional expectations of the program.
Criminal History Considerations
Applicants are required to disclose misdemeanor and felony convictions and pending criminal charges as requested on the application.
A criminal conviction or pending charge does not automatically disqualify an applicant from admission.
Idaho CPR Plus may evaluate relevant criminal history individually, considering factors such as:
-
The nature and seriousness of the offense or charge.
-
The amount of time that has passed.
-
The relevance of the circumstances to student, instructor, patient, or public safety.
-
The applicant's explanation and any relevant evidence of rehabilitation.
-
Potential restrictions affecting clinical placements or professional licensure.
Particular consideration may be given to circumstances involving violence, abuse, exploitation, or other conduct that presents a relevant safety concern, especially because the program may include students under 18 years of age.
Applicants should understand that admission to the training program does not guarantee eligibility for clinical placement, certification, or Idaho EMS licensure. These may involve separate requirements and determinations by outside organizations.
Previous EMT Training
Applicants who have previously enrolled in an EMT training program must disclose their prior training history, including whether they completed the program.
Previous unsuccessful enrollment does not automatically disqualify an applicant.
Idaho CPR Plus may consider repeated unsuccessful attempts, academic performance, attendance history, or other relevant circumstances when evaluating readiness for successful completion.
Applicants may be asked to provide additional information regarding previous enrollment.
Professional Conduct and Academic Readiness
Idaho CPR Plus may consider relevant information indicating whether an applicant is prepared to participate responsibly in a demanding healthcare training environment.
Considerations may include:
-
Ability and willingness to follow program policies and instructions.
-
Professional and respectful communication with staff, instructors, and fellow students.
-
Demonstrated understanding of the program's time commitment.
-
Relevant prior academic or training difficulties.
-
Documented conduct that raises legitimate concerns about safety, professionalism, or successful participation.
Admissions decisions will be based on relevant, individualized circumstances rather than assumptions or stereotypes.
Physical Skills and Participation Requirements
EMT training includes physically demanding activities such as CPR, kneeling, getting down to and up from the floor, moving and positioning patients, lifting and carrying training equipment, and participating in simulated emergency scenarios.
Students must be able to participate in essential training activities and demonstrate required competencies safely, with or without reasonable accommodations.
Applicants who may require reasonable accommodations are encouraged to contact Idaho CPR Plus to discuss their needs and available options.
Clinical and Certification Requirements
Clinical training facilities may establish additional participation requirements, including documentation of immunizations, immunity, tuberculosis screening, background checks, or approved exemptions, as applicable.
Students are responsible for meeting applicable clinical placement requirements. Failure to satisfy these requirements may prevent completion of required clinical experiences.
Students must also obtain an accepted BLS Provider certification within the first two weeks of class, consistent with current program requirements.
Application Review and Admissions Decisions
Idaho CPR Plus reviews applications individually and may request clarification or additional documentation when reasonably necessary.
Admissions decisions may include acceptance, denial, or deferral based on relevant program requirements and circumstances.
When enrollment exceeds available seats, Idaho CPR Plus may consider applicants' demonstrated understanding of the EMT role, readiness for training, commitment to completing the program, and other consistently applied, program-related selection criteria.
Applicants will generally receive an initial application status update within 1–7 business days. Applicants who are not accepted will be notified within 14 calendar days.
Idaho CPR Plus reserves the right to deny or defer admission based on an individualized review of relevant factors, consistent with applicable laws and program policies.
Accuracy of Application Information
Applicants are expected to provide complete and accurate information.
Knowingly providing false or materially misleading information, or intentionally omitting required information, may result in denial of admission or dismissal from the program, subject to applicable law.
